Zenit to seal their qualification to the group stage in the first-leg.

From the other games, I would like to see Ludogorets get past Basel. That would be immense for them, but I can't see it happening.

I hope they can gather a decent crowd at the National stadium (their city is rather small and is located about 400km away from it) - let's see if they will have a proper home support.

It'd be great to play PAOK - will get to see the Trainer der Herzen again.

There will be a play-off involving Schalke:

The UEFA Emergency Panel, which is composed of five members of the UEFA Executive Committee, decided to replace Metalist with PAOK FC for the remainder of the 2013/14 club competitions.

As a consequence the Greek club, eliminated by Metalist in the third qualifying round, will now face FC Schalke 04 in the UEFA Champions League play-offs, with the first leg to be played on 21 August in Germany.

This decision is final. Metalist have the opportunity to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

PAOK will not be replaced in the UEFA Europa League play-offs and their opponents, Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC, thus qualify directly for the group stage.

Aaand the winner of all this is Maccabi Tel-Aviv...

Weird that Schalke have to play the play-off, but Maccabi Tel-Aviv don't.

I can seriously assure you that one thing that Kyriakos is not - is happy!  The season is starting, his team is being walloped, he is the subject of serious talks between the club and Manchester and Liverpool and possibly Arsenal and his mate Teemu looks like zipping off to Glasgow plus he has not yet had a proper training session - now that's seriously not happy!

I will have to watch the Sociedad game. Hopefully they get through as they deserve it with that quality team of theirs. They rested some of their best players yesterday and still won quite comfortably so they will be fresh.

I'll probably watch Arsenal game as well. They will need to improve big time from yesterdays showing in the league, although they did rest some key players who you would expect to start in this.

PSV vs AC Milan is the second best fixture after Lyon vs Sociedad.

I hope Arsenal get knocked, but they won't. I am sick of seeing them in the Champions League every year, they are the most predictable team in Europe, they get knocked out by the first good team they play every year  .

My hope of winning lies solely in my perfect winning (bar a draw vs Arsenal that felt like a win) record when watching the game in the stand where we will be on Wednesday. I have no trust in the team after yesterday's game. Looks like PAOK might just have a chance....

These are actually very decent ties. Hope Milan win. Been a while since PSV were in Europe, but Europe without AC Milan doesn't seem right.

Will be a difficult tie for us with us having to play both games in stadiums full of opposition fans... (or at least it'll seem that way to our players). Think it'll be a score draw in this leg and then a narrow win in the 2nd to send us through.

As for today, Shakhtar/Celtic, Lyon/Sociedad, Pacos/Zenit & PSV/Milan sound interesting. Don't know anything about Plzen/Maribor though.

EDIT: Just realised it's not Shakhtar Donetsk but Shakhter Karagandy.. I was tricked.

Unlucky Vela, just hit post.

Not been a bad start to the game this.

Fuck me, what a goal by Griezmann! Immense overhead, 0-1 Sociedad. Deserved as well.

That was the perfect overhead.

First time in my life I have heard of Shaktar Karagandy :O

That's because they are called Shakhter and not Shakhtar. ;)

Just a curiosity: Real Sociedad last game in the Champions League was against Lyon, back in 2003/04.

Ac Milan 1-0. PSV playing the better football but AC Milan getting closer with their chances. PSV's CB pairing consists of a 21 year old and an 18 year old...

A long time. If they get through Lyon, they will most likely end up in a "group of death".

Got a lot of quality in their side Real (Sociedad). I don't think a lot of people understand how much quality they have.

I don't think they'll get past the group stage, to be honest.

Possibly finish 3rd and get in the Europa League.

Maher with some well struck shots. Abbiati matching them so far.

Maher now hits the crossbar. If you're not watching the game you're missing out.

Depends on the group, but I could see them getting a tough one which would probably mean finishing 3rd like you said(although Malaga got through it last season and they didn't have a team as good as this Real Sociedad one), that's if they even get past Lyon that is. It's far from over yet.

Some magical moments in this game. Abate is the MOM so far for me. He has been ruthless getting the ball back, that cross was perfect. Captain Monto is showing some ridiculous skills too, should probably keep an eye out for those watching. PSV are showing inexperience, Milan are more than welcome to sit back all game and devour the pressure. I'm happy so far and will take the 1-0 and if a goal is conceded I would not be too upset.

Its like Im watching Dortmund 2011/2012 in Champions league. PSV created plenty of chances and were just way better than Milan and somehow they are losing 0-1. This shows how much value experience has. Milan scored from one opportunity, PSV failed to score from six or seven. Very naive in front of both goals. I hope they improve in the second half, it will be a big shame to see them getting knocked-out.

Lyon 0-2 Sociedad

Seferovic with a rocket after some lovely play. This lad is class. Every time I've seen him he's been mint in every thing he does up front. they have done amazingly well to manage to land such a talent on a free transfer. Only 21 years old as well.
