Demba Ba voted signing of the season

20 posts in this topic

DEMBA BA has been voted as the Premier League’s signing of the season – according to the game’s top bosses.

The Senegal international came out on top following a vote by all of the Premier League managers – in what has to regarded a real coup for Newcastle United given their transfer policy.

Ba arrived on a free transfer last summer after being part of the West Ham team that was relegated last term, and his 16 goals have helped put Newcastle on course for Europe.

Ba won 56% of the votes with Manchester United defender Phil Jones (31%) coming second and former Toon skipper Scott Parker picking up third spot with 13%.

Ba was also voted the third best striker in the Premier League, while Tim Krul made it into the top five goalkeepers in the top flight in the opinion of the managers.

Managers also voted for which ground creates the best atmosphere on a match day, with Newcastle finishing third behind Stoke City and winners Liverpool.

There was a further appreciation for the black-and-whites too when Alan Shearer picked up 13% of the votes for the Premier League’s most influential player. Big Al, though, couldn’t top the overall winner Ryan Giggs who scooped a massive 50% of votes.

Tottenham’s attacking football has ensured that three quarters of Premier League managers rate Harry Redknapp’s team (75%) as the best team to watch in the top-flight this season, according to the poll.

However, the majority think that Manchester City (66%) will pip local rivals Manchester United (33%) to win their first ever Premier League title according to research by Barclays, title sponsor of the League Managers Association (LMA).

:D Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :)

Needs to come out of his current drought of ramadan proportions :O

But the season isn't over yet :(.

What if he went on a own-goal, murdering rampage and did a Jason Russell on us?

It's only March!

And anyway, my vote goes to Michael Vorm.

You infidel

Maybe they ask them now so it doesn't clash with the real awards because it might look silly if managers pick something totally different to players and journalists.

Why would it look silly? Surely just have a big 2011/2012 season awards night after all games are complete i.e. towards end of May time, and have Manager's Player of the Year, Player's Player of the Year...etc etc...

They do it in Football League too, just 10 days ago they had the season's awards. Just seems a bit backwards to me having seasonal awards before it's over.

Surely Yakubu should be up there?? a goal or so behind Ba, he cost less and is playing in a struggling team compared to one in the top of the league! Ba has been an excellent signing, but Yakubu isn't far behind especially as he has done so well in a team in the bottom 3 for most of the season.

Jones has been a great signing, as has Parker. There was no doubt with Jones, you could see he was a special player when he played that first game for us against Chelsea and handled Drogba so well. United got a bargin there...it still makes me laugh that the City fans were saying at the time that Savic was by far the better of the 2 players

Scholes for me.

Jones coming in second must be some sort of a joke. He's looked very poor for the most part this season especially when played in his 'natural' position. Fifth choice centreback for me

I agree Yak should be up there, he's had a great season.

Knowing some City fans they'd probably still stand by that statement.

I think they've got it spot on naming Ba, the best signing of the season overall. However I reckon Cabaye deserves a big mention. He;s been brilliant for the toon. That in a nutshell means Newcastle made the two best signings, I doubt it if many will disagree with that. However Jose Enrique whom Liverpool signed from Newcastle should rank up high,

Personally, I think that signing Tony Adams and putting him in a Koscielny costume was an unmatchable masterstroke.

Sensible choice, he's had a cracking season.

Yakubu, Parker and Vorm can't be far behind, they've all been excellent.

You can't really argue with Ba as he has been in superb form this season and to think that Newcastle got him on a free makes it all the better. For me, Yak would come second as he was a bargain and has scored triple of what a striker has who costed 50 mil and another who cost 35 mil.

I disagree with Jones. The lad is going to be brilliant in my opinion and will improve after this season. However, I don't think that you can call him the signing of the season considering the price he cost.

I think he'll turn into a good box to box midfielder definitely, maybe a right back, but he's definitely no centre back. If you're short of centre back's then he can fill in, but he's been shown up quite a few times there. Then again, he is only 20, 21? When he hits 24, 25, he could turn it around completely.

Ba without a doubt, Parker second, Jones shouldn't even be on the list (as much a I love him).
