Koller Remains Upbeat
Czech Republic striker Jan Koller is confident he will be fit for next year's World Cup.
Koller damaged his cruciate ligament on Saturday during Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga clash with Mainz.
The towering hit-man was hurt in a challenge from Mainz defender Manuel Friedrich and faces at least six months on the sidelines.
An absence of eight months could be required before Koller is fit again but he is optimistic about the prospects of figuring in the World Cup in Germany next summer.
"Unfortunately, the detailed investigation showed that I have an 80 percent broken cruciate ligament," Koller told Pravo.
"I will have to undergo surgery and a plaster of the whole ligament. It is one of the worst injuries a footballer can have.
"I will be in the clinic for about a week and then I will start physiotherapy.
"He told me that, if it goes well, I could return after half a year. In the worst case, it could take up to eight months but I should be ready for the World Cup in Germany.
"Of course, it will depend on the medication but I am optimistic."
Koller is out of contract at Dortmund at the end of the season and, despite previously stating he will quit the club, the German outfit insist their offer of an extension is still on the table.
