I know I'm not a mod or anything, but isn't that what the Match Day Chat forum is for?

Looks like a very strong team - But isn't Maniche slightly more of a defensive/Makelele type player? Or am I thinking of Costinha?

Oh, OK.

I suppose I better post our team for the Utd clash then. :D

I'm not sure whether Agger is fit enough yet. He hasn't played for 4 months, because of a knee injury. He says he is fit to start playing though.

Maniche can play defensive or attacking just like Essien does. Makelele plays infront of the defence and Lampard plays in the attacking midfielders role.

Finnan---------------Carra- -------Hyypia------------------Riise

Gerrard--------------Sissoko-------Alonso- -------------Kewell

Just condensed this for a little discussion. I'd be worried, personally, about the threat of a forward run at Hyypia from Lampard or possibly Maniche. Sissoko, while technically very good, has not got the bottle of Gerrard, who I'm not sure plays his best football on the right wing. Against Chelsea it might be a better idea to play a strong spine, considering their dense midfield.

However, replace the name Lampard with Ronaldo and do you not think there are still problems?

Ronaldo is suspended :D

I don't think there would be the same problem if Ronaldo was there, because he has quite clearly not been at his best this season. I didn't really see Lampard causing Sami any problems in the three games, this season anyway. The only problem Sami has had this season against Chelsea is Drogba. In the 1-4 furious.gif defeat at Anfield.

actually freddy and pires both started against boro and played exceptionally well ;)

cole is out. campbell faces a late fitness test. bergkamp is back. van persie will be out till probably the wigan game though i don't see him starting till bolton game next saturday.
if campbell isnt fit for saturday, then i see this:

-----------------------lehmann
lauren------senderos----djourou------gilbert
freddy------cesc----gilberto------pires
--------------henry----reyes

again, an inexperienced defence like against boro. we'll have problems with the aerial threat of cahill. but senderos did pretty well against everton last season at highbury, and he was up against duncan ferguson for the last 15 minutes : laugh.gif:

hopefully pires, freddy, henry and reyes will carry their form from the boro game. yes ok that game was easy considering their line up but they still had experienced players, and we had inexperience too

oh and the bench of course:

almunia
:shock2: we don't have a defender (maybe campbell?)
flamini
hleb

I think the team i am going to choose for Monday night will be:-

------------------------- ------------CARROLL----------------------- -----------------

REPKA-------- --------GABBIDON-----------FERDINAND------ ------KONCHESKY

KATAN------------- ---BENAYOUN-----------REO-COKER----------- ETHERINGTON

------------------- -----HAREWOOD-----------ZAMORA------------ ------------------

I think we should play 4 - 4 - 2 and try Katan on the right and have Benayoun in an attackive midfield role where he works best.
