Tuttosport understands that were Amauri to leave Turin, Juventus would try to make VfL Wolfsburg striker Edin Džeko his replacement.
Džeko's entourage has apparently contacted the Bianconeri in order to discover whether they would be interested in him next summer.
The 23-year-old Bosnia international burst on to the scene last year when he scored 36 goals in all competitions as Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.
He was heavily linked with Milan during the off-season, but VfL Wolfsburg's determination not to sell him spoke volumes and the Rossoneri bought Klaas-Jan Huntelaar instead.
Yesterday Dzeko once again spoke of his desire to join Milan, telling fifa.com that he hopes to sign for the club sometime in the future.
However, according to Tuttosport, this is all smoke and mirrors, as Juventus met with Džeko's representatives three weeks ago.
The deal hinges on the status of Amauri, who had gone eight months without a goal before finding the net against Fiorentina in October.
That said, Amauri is reportedly attracting interest from a big English club and an offer in excess of £20m would tempt Juve into a sale.

Edin Džeko would undoubtedly be an improvement an Amauri. I remain unconvinced by the Brazilians abilities. He appears clumsy at times and even if he is an excellent target man, he is not a clinical finisher and does not guarantee 15 goals a season. Džeko is the whole package. He can play as a target man, link the play, is good in possession and can score goals with great regularity. Even if Amauri was to stay, I would want Džeko to be added in the summer, when David Trézéguet departs. It would either be him, or Giampaolo Pazzini.
With regard to the English club who are reportedly interested in Amauri, it could well be Chelsea, but it is more likely Liverpool, who have held an interest in him previously.
