Worns Agrees New Deal

Borussia Dortmund defender Christian Worns has agreed a new deal at the club.

The German international's current contract was due to expire next summer, but he has agreed a one-year extension.

The 33-year-old had been keen to extend his stay at the Westfalenstadion and he was delighted to ink a new deal.

"I am delighted to have the chance to carry on playing for Dortmund in front of these great fans," said Worns.

"The club put forward their plans for the future and I am convinced."

Good signs ahead: Rosicky and Kehl hopeful for Sunday´s match
borussia-dortmund.de

Personnel issues are pressing on Borussia Dortmund prior to their home fixture on Sunday against VFB Stuttgart. Besides star striker Jan Koller who will be out for up to 8 months after tearing his cruciate ligaments, Cedric van der Gun, Delron Buckley and Salvatore Gambino will also be unavailable. Turkish youngster Nuri Sahin (17) is still in Peru with the Turkish U17 World Cup team. Turkey lost the semi-final last night against Brazil (3-4) after coming back from a 0-3 deficit. Sahin scored the equalizer with a fantastic shot from outside the penalty box.

There are positive signs however, from two other regulars: Tomas Rosicky did extremely well in yesterday´s training with fitness coach Egid Kiesouw, "trying many different things and doing good" according to the Czech playmaker. Rosicky, troubled by knee problems, told www.bvb.de on Friday afternoon: "So far, so good. I am dying to play on Sunday and hope that I can do more in the practice session today than I could do yesterday."

Sebastian Kehl, who had undergone surgery on his left ankle during the summer break, was also found in a better mood although he had felt some pain in the ankle lately. "But it´s luckily in a different spot, so I hope it´ll be fine till Sunday", Kehl told BVB TV.

The decision whether or not U21-international Markus Brzenska will be available on the BVB bench will only be made shortly before the kick-off. Brzenska still suffers from a slight ankle injury. (German article by br - translated by BVB International Supporters)

Koller's Contract Wrangle

Borussia Dortmund's colossus Jan Koller has denied the club's claims he has been offered a new contract.

Koller, whose present deal expires next summer, had been linked with a move to The Premiership during the transfer window, with Sunderland said to be monitoring the Czech international.

Dortmund had earlier stated their willingness to discuss new terms, however no offer has been forthcoming and Koller has demurred at the thought of extending his stay at the Westfalenstadion.

"They said that only to the newspapers, not me. Nobody has offered me anything," the striker told Sport.cz.

"But I don't solve it at the moment, I will probably not accept it."

Koller has suffered damaged cruciate ligaments but linked up with the Czech international squad regardless as they prepare to host Holland in Saturday's World Cup qualifier.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with Croatian international Bosko Balaban. planetfootball.com

The striker looks set to leave UEFA Champions League starters Club Brugge at the end of his contract next summer and Dortmund seem ready to join the hunt for his services as they attempt to find a replacement for giant forward Jan Koller.

The Czech international, who is currently sidelined after tearing cruciate ligaments, has announced that he will not extend his spell at the Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund were rebuffed in their attempts for Barcelona's Swedish international Henrik Larsson and landing Balaban on a free transfer could help coach Bert Van Marwijk to solve his problems up front.

Balaban, who flopped playing Premiership football for Aston Villa, has established himself as one of the most reliable goalscorers in the Jupiler League and is believed to be keen to strive to prove himself in a bigger league once again.

Dortmund Keen On Frei

Alexander Frei has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old Swiss international striker, who has been in good form for French side Rennes this season, is believed to be the main transfer target for director of sport Michael Zorc.

Dortmund are in the process of looking for a replacement for Czech international striker Jan Koller who has been ruled out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

After overcoming a period of financial instability the club have promised to provide coach Bert Van Marwijk with funds for a new striker.

Dortmund have also been linked with a move for Club Brugge's Croatian international Bosko Balaban.
