Roman Abramovich would pay �85m for Fernando Torres if he thought he could get him.

Chelsea's billionaire owner was an admiring onlooker here on Sunday night as the brilliant Liverpool striker dominated Spain's European Championship victory over Germany. Torres was man of the match in every way and how Chelsea would love to prise him away from Anfield.Their first reported offer of �50m was laughed away by Liverpool and Torres has admitted he has no wish to quit Merseyside.Abramovich, however, is determined to rebuild Chelsea's squad for new manager Phil Scolari and the Russian has been a constant visitor to Euro 2008 over the last weeks.

Why call this topic "Chelsea to bid" when the first line is "Roman Abramovich would pay �85m for Fernando Torres if he thought he could get him" Clearly showing is only an admirrer and not meaning he is going to bid.

Wont Chelsea get someone like Huntelaar for a lot cheaper. I know Torres is more established in the Premiership but that price is insane, even for Torres.

Would be a 300% profit, depends which Atl. Madrid&got;Liverpool fee you believe of course. I'd line up a replacement first though, that's the problem. Personally I'm inclined to not believe RA would pay �85m as he could pick out players from outside England at a lot less and nearly as good. It's not like Torres is the best striker by many many miles, you could probably get Villa AND Eto'o for that money - or Ronaldo

I tell you, Chelsea has turned to the real madrid of england, always wanting to unsettle players at their clubs, it's not like all top players can play for the club or they are willing to sign all top players of the world (as that would never happen), it's just to unsettle the club.

Why on earth does he now feel Torres is the man, when he had the chance to buy him 2 seasons ago for 3x less what he's willing to pay now (or so the media states)? It's just rediculous, go out and go get your players..., plus I thought he wanted to place a �30m bid for Adebayor, not heard of an offer been placed.
