This thread is to disscuss the newest and most successful Australian Football League!

Heres the Table after 5 rounds and 1 game(s);

Team             W	D	L	PTS
1.	Adelaide      3	2	0	11
2.	Melbourne     2	3	1	9
3.	Central Coast 2 2 2 8
4.	Newcastle     2	1	2	7
5.	Sydney        2	1	2	7
6.	Perth         2	1	2	7
7.	Queensland    1	2	2	5
8.	New Zealand   1	0	4	3

Newcastle, Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland have been the surprise packages so far. Sydney and Melbourne were expected to gain much better positions then there current positions. Also Newcastle and Queensland are seeming to be the black horses of the competition.

Heres this weekends action;

New Zealand Knights FC 0
Perth Glory FC 1

Queensland Roar FC 1
Sydney FC 3

Melbourne Victory FC 1
Newcastle Jets FC 0

Adelaide United FC 1
Central Coast Mariners FC 1

Central Coast vs Adelaide should be good...the semi final of the Pre-season tournament will have its reply on a different ground while Newcastle should hammer Melbourne away. Queensland and Sydney I think will pull for a draw as New Zealend will suffer another loss.

no, New Zealand isn't big enough and they play in all our leagues...yet don't want to be apart of our nation. Its kind of shocking really.

Bad news for the Kiwi's:

Quote

New Zealand Knights skipper Danny Hay has been ruled out for four weeks to allow the skipper time to regain his fitness.

Hay pulled out of the Knight's match against Newcastle last Sunday at half-time with a groin injury.

Knights manager John Adshead said the Hay needs time to get over his injury without the pressure of playing.

"It is disappointing to lose Danny but we must allow him time to come right after another problem with the groin on the weekend," he said.

"The issue at the moment may well be one of the pressures to play each week not allowing Danny to do the necessary rehab on the injury. By removing that temptation, the medical team can work with him to strengthen the problem area."

Jeremy Christie comes into the squad of 20 players to replace Hay on a short term contract.

The Knights play Perth Glory on Thursday night at North Harbour Stadium.

There quick on getting a replacement! Melbourne Victory has only 19 players, were trying to sign a Polish International from what I last heard...this is really a big loss for New Zealend, despite his age his one of there better players.

Also on a new poll on the official A-League website, Perth Glory and New Zealend Knights have been polled as 'very boring to watch with 3% and 4% of votes.' while Queensland Roar are the 'most entertaining by a long shot with a massive 31% of votes.'

Perth Glory 1 - 0 New Zealend Knights
Jamie Harnwell 67'

Quote

Perth Glory has captured a 1-0 victory over the New Zealand Knights in their Hyundai A-League clash at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland.

Jamie Harnwell was the hero for the visitors, his 67th minute strike proving to be the difference.

The visitors started poorly and were lucky not to trail at half-time after a dazzling opening half performance from the Knights, who relentlessly peppered the goal with shots from around the box.

Knights’ left wing Zenon Caravella was inspirational, feeding his strikers all night with deft crosses, which baffled the Glory defence.

However, Knights’ shooters Joshua Rose and Sean Devine were unable to find the back of the net, both kicking wayward on several occasions.

Rose’s first opportunity came in the 12th minute when his strike sailed over the posts, the chance coming from a perfectly timed cross by mid-fielder Ben Collett.

The Glory’s opening spell was quiet and limited in scoring chances.

Big Brian Deane came agonisingly close in the 21st minute, but his header scraped just wide of the goalpost.

Moments later, the Knights were in scoring range again but Rose’s strike was well off the mark.

Perth goalie Jason Petkovic was exceptional at the back, continuously holding out the Knights’ attempts.

As the half-time siren approached, the Glory almost pulled off an upset lead but Naum Sekulovski’s one-on-one strike was defended brilliantly by Knights’ goalie Glen Moss.

The Knights didn’t enjoy the same dominance in the second half and the Glory signaled their intentions early when Bobby Despotovski’s flat punt slowly rolled wide of a vacant goal.

Perth lifted the tempo and soon began to trade more shots as both sides desperately vied for a goal.

The winner came in the 67th minute when Harnwell found the net, courtesy of a superb cross from Sekulovski.

Trailing by one, the Knights began to try harder for a goal that looked unlikely to come, conceding three offsides in the space of five minutes.

Substitute Noah Hickey did his best to find the equalizer in the 82nd minute but another crucial save by Petkovic was enough to give the Glory the victory.

David Zdrilic plays for Sydney FC, doesn't he? I know him because he played in Germany (SSV Ulm)
Andre Gumprecht plays for the Central Coast Mariners, is that right?? And the coach of Sydney is Pierre Littbarski??

its dissapointing that another sport has made this league adjust its schedule so it can get good crowds. No games are on tommorow because of the AFL Grand Final which normally sells out the MCG.

Also Sydneys win should lift them up to 3rd but they havn't updated the table on the official site so i'm not certain i'm right yet.

I think they would of played the game that didn't involve Victory tommorow if the Grand Final was two Victorian AFL clubs but since the leagues given so much money to clubs not in Victoria teams from Sydney and Perth are playing and people from all around Australia are flocking in. :dam:

Brian Deane has been useless to be honest, 0 goals, and 1 or two assists, I know he is 39 or whatever but I expect better!
