Is there one?

Im gonna drive in east germany next year and I was worried when someone said that in germany the motoways have no speed limits.....

now is this true? if so, i wonder how many accidents a day or are the lil germans not insured over 80 mph?

From waht i know i bleieve there are limits in some places but that there are also places where there aren't any limits

At the german 'Autobahn's is NO SPEED LIMIT - at some places where it is more dangerous or so (bridge) there are limits signed out but normally on the 'Autobahn' there is no speed limit.

so you can drive 300 km/h if you have the car therefor...

yeh.. there pretty mad on the roads.. in comparison to england anyway

but i havent seen an accident yet.. they use speed cameras a lot though.. and their sometimes hidden :thumb:

and from people i know who have driven in Germany...They said not many accidents happen because Germans actually know how to drive :beer:

i remember when we were on the motorway once about to pass someone... and some guy beeped from a couple of hundred metres back in the fast lane to wait... as he speeded past in a sports car.. well over 100 mp/h

The recommended speed at the Autobahn is 130km/h and there is simply no speed limit - of course their are many limitations signed out but generally there is just no limit...also you are allowed to drive faster than 250km/h but the most new cars who could do so are regulated to 250km/h ^^

It's surprising what you can read in this thread :-)

The minimum speed for cars is 80 km/h.

There is a speed limit for trucks at 120 km/h.

There is no speed limit for cars, except near construction sites and when it's snowing and stuff. The speed limit will then be displayed digitally near the road.

Feel free to go as fast as you want to. You should rent a Porsche or something for the weekend. But don't stay too much in East Germany, you'll get a wrong sense of what Germany is.

Rather go to Bavaria e.g. Munich, Stuttgart etc.

Edit: There is no speed limit of 250 or so. Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Volswagen have a gentleman's agreement to install an electronic speed limit for their cars at 250 km/h. However, you can go to your car dealer and get rid of this limit for free. Then you can drive as fast as possible.

Not sure to be honest.

In France they encourage you to go faster. Holland are quite strict on speeding I think.

Most European countries on the road compared to us obviously haven't heard of the highway code.
